Raparin and Slemani Technical Universities announce the extension of holiday due to renovation

On Wednesday, Raparin and Slemani Technical Universities announced the extension of the New Year's holiday due to the renovation of their dormitories.

Bafel Jalal Talabani continues to provide the necessities to universities of the Kurdistan Region, to fulfill the demands of students and provide an integrated academic year.

The Technical University of Slemani said in a statement, "Due to the renovations in the dormitories, we decided to extend New Year's holiday until January 6, 2022."

For its part, Raparin University also announced in a statement extending the holiday until next Thursday, until the completion of the renovations of the university's departments.

The university stressed that the renovation of the university's departments comes after the aids provided by Bafel Jalal Talabani.

On December 6, Bafel Jalal Talabani had met the representatives of all universities and colleges within the borders of the governorates of Slemani, Kirkuk, Halabja, and a section of universities and institutes in the Kurdistan Region.

The 12-hour-long meeting discussed supporting the demands of the students and helping them to address their problems, while Bafel Jalal Talabani decided to work on implementing all the demands, most notably working to re-disburse the monthly allowances through the PUK team of in the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Bafel Jalal Talabani also decided to reconstruct the dormitory departments, provide the students' requirements, set up Internet networks for them, light the classrooms, and provide buses to transport students, especially those who live outside cities.

Following the meeting, aid convoys from the PUK were sent to the Universities of Sharazwr, Halabja, Garmian, Slemani, Darbandikhan, Koya, and Dukan.

Bafel Talabani says: "The demands of the demonstrating university students are legitimate and must be met."

He adds that he was hoping for the Kurdistan Regional Government to meet the students’ demands, and confirms: "We will work as a party to find a mechanism to meet their demands and solve their problems."
