Iraqi Museum to be reopened soon

On Friday, the Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi directed the reopening of the Iraqi Museum to the public and researchers.

 

Al-Kadhimi tweeted: "In conjunction with the return of 17,000 Iraqi artifacts with our delegation, which ended a successful visit to Washington yesterday, we directed the reopening of the Iraqi Museum to the public and researchers."

 

He added, "This step will be a new beginning to draw inspiration from our ancient civilizational values and our authentic national identity, and to educate our generations about the sciences, cultures, and achievements this land has provided."

 

On Thursday, The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Hassan Nazim announced the arrival of 17,000 antiquities from the United States.

 

"The antiquities were recovered, as a result, of the efforts of Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Culture represented by the Antiquities and Heritage Authority, and a great effort from the Iraqi Embassy in Washington," Nazim added.

 

Nazim also stated that there are still some artifacts in the United States, and they are working to recover them. "Iraq will witness a similar process soon to recover other antiquities," He continued.

 

Additionally, Laith Hussein, the head of the Antiquities and Heritage Authority, confirmed that most of the recovered antiquities return to the period of Ur III dynasty 2121-2004 BC, from the modern Sumerian era. read more
