Officials from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Gorran Movement (Movement for Change) have expressed optimism about the Kurdistan Coalition.

The coalition between the PUK and Gorran Movement has drawn the attention of officials and even the people of the Kurdistan Region, and the officials from both parties see the coalition as very important for the Kurdistan Region.

After the PUK and Gorran Movement announced early in May that they will enter the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections as a coalition, officials from both sides expressed their happiness in all the areas of Kurdistan region and agreed that more and better attention should be given to this coalition.

Iraq will hold elections on October 10, ahead of schedule. Early elections were one of the demands of protesters who took to the streets in October 2019 across central and southern Iraq.

Dler Hama Saad, the head of the PUK Organization Committee in Darbandikhan, told PUKmedia that the agreement of the PUK and Gorran Movement was a dream and a map of the road of two charismatic and prominent Kurdistan leaders and founders of the PUK that they built in the past.

He also said, "The continuation and implementation of the agreement at this sensitive stage in Iraq and Kurdistan Region is a valuable and important work for serving the people of Kurdistan, and a hell for the enemies of both sides and our nation."

"The PUK and Gorran Movement are very close in strategy in governing the Kurdistan Region," he said.

Saad hoped for more steps to be made to unite the Kurdish house on the Iraqi level and the region in general and for all to join hands to succeed the democratic process and eliminating corruption and to prioritize the unity of the Kurdish house, whether in Baghdad or any region for serving Kurdistan.

Meanwhile, Ahmed Sofi, a cadre of the PUK, believes that "all the alliances have both good and bad sides, especially this alliance, which is very important because we saw the experience of both parties participating in the elections separately in the past, where the most affected by the damages that it caused was the people."

"That's why forming this alliance will create a peaceful atmosphere during election campaigns away from, secondly, we will return to Baghdad with more unity voice, which will serve the people more, thirdly, balance of powers between Sulaymaniyah and Erbil will return, fourthly, which is very important, is that they will be able to get more seats in the disputed areas, and fifthly, it was the dream of Kak Nawshirwan and Mam Jalal," he said.

"This election is a new and important test and the coalition should be greater and better, because if the parties do not prepare for this election carefully, it will not have good results and if we look at the past days, we see that Iraqi leaders have made more visits than before to Sulaymaniyah, which is another important part of this alliance," he added.

Expanding the coalition

For his part, Faisal Muhammad Salih, a member of the Gorran Movement and the head of the Darbandikhan Center for Gorran, told PUKmedia that the agreement between the PUK and the Gorran Movement is a national need, as the current situation in Kurdistan, Iraq, and the region is unstable.

"So we find it important for all Kurdish forces to unite, especially for the Iraqi parliament election, all of them should be have one voice to ask for our nation's rights from the Iraqi Council of Representatives," he said.

"We have made great efforts to expand this front to unite all Kurdish forces in Baghdad," he said.

Salih reiterated that they are sure of the supporters of the Gorran movement support this coalition and will  work to succeed this list.

He also revealed that there is a understanding with Islamic parties in some of the election circles and called for this coalition be expanded in the future so that our nation will no longer suffer.

While Aram Salih Kaka, the head of the Gorran Movement's relations room, told PUKmedia that Gorran Movement has always tried its best to reach understandings and rapprochements with other parties, especially the PUK, stressing that rapprochement is better than distance, especially in national issues.

"We hope this alliance will be a way to get rid of all the crises that our nation suffers, for it to be away of giving back hope to the people of Kurdistan," he said.
