The Iraqi parliament is scheduled to hold its 11th regular session on Sunday to discuss three items on its agenda.

According to a statement issued by the Parliament’s Media Office, a copy of which was obtained by PUKMEDIA, the session will include: first, a discussion of the latest security challenges facing Iraq and the wider region; second, a vote on the members of the standing parliamentary committees; and third, general discussions.

Last month, the Parliament held its tenth session of the sixth electoral term during the first legislative year of the current parliamentary cycle. During that session, lawmakers approved amendments to the bylaws governing the standing parliamentary committees, increasing their number to 22. This included the establishment of a new committee on border crossings and the protection of domestic products, as well as amendments to articles regulating the organisation and functioning of the committees.

Parliament also voted to confirm Abdul Amir Yarallah as Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army and Ammar Musa Kadhim as Mayor of Baghdad, after adding the items to the agenda at the request of a member of Parliament.
