Kurdish FIDE Master Secures Win at Asian Chess Championship

Iraqi captain and FIDE Master (FM) Zozik Mohammed secured a significant win in the sixth round of the 2026 Asian Continental Individual Classical Chess Championship, currently being held in Mongolia.

Playing with the black pieces, Mohammed defeated Mongolian player Boldbaatar, bringing his total score in the tournament to 3 points after six rounds.

The event, organised under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation, has brought together some of the continent’s strongest players to compete for the individual classical title.

Iraqi sports officials expressed hope that the result would improve the standing of Iraqi players in the international rankings.
