Kurdistan Vice President and US Consul General Discuss Peshmerga Reorganisation

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, and Ms. Wendy Green, US Consul General in the Kurdistan Region, chaired an important meeting today, Wednesday 18 February 2026, at the Kurdistan Regional Presidency to discuss the ongoing reorganisation and unification of the Peshmerga forces.

The meeting was attended by a US diplomatic and military delegation, officials from the Presidency and Regional Government, representatives of military institutions, and Peshmerga commanders.

During the discussions, emphasis was placed on the importance of unifying and organising the Peshmerga forces. The latest steps in this process were reviewed, along with the work and actions of the relevant committees over the past period.

Both sides agreed on joint measures to accelerate the unification process and remove obstacles hindering its progress. They also exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation.
