A senior delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), led by PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani, visited the headquarters of the New Generation Movement in Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday, 17 February 2026. The delegation was received by the movement’s leader, Shaswar Abdulwahid, and the two sides held discussions on the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, as well as on strengthening bilateral relations.

Following the meeting, Shaswar Abdulwahid held a press conference, highlighting the focus of the agreement between the two parties. “Our agreement with the PUK concerns the system of governance, the formation of the new regional government, and the implementation of reform initiatives that benefit the citizens of Kurdistan,” he said.

He added that the pact also covers joint action both within the region and in Baghdad, and confirmed the New Generation Movement’s support for the PUK’s candidate for the presidency. “If we are able to form a strong parliamentary bloc, we can restore the balance of power in the Region and subsequently establish a government that works to improve the living conditions of our citizens,” he explained.

Describing the meeting as positive, Shaswar Abdulwahid confirmed that another session would be held later this week at the political bureau level to finalise the points of agreement. “Our aim is to unite the Kurdish ranks and reinforce the credibility of government institutions,” he said.

He also urged other political parties to join the alliance, emphasising that a broader coalition would help form a service-oriented government focused on delivering tangible benefits to the people of Kurdistan.
