Hiwa Cancer Hospital Records Nearly 500 New Cases in January

The director of Hiwa Cancer Hospital in Sulaymaniyah has revealed that hundreds of new cancer and blood disease cases were recorded during the first month of 2026.

Speaking at a press conference covered by PUKMEDIA, Dr Yad Naqshbandi said the hospital registered 487 new cases in January alone. Of these, 285 cases were diagnosed in the departments specialising in non-cancerous and haematological diseases.

Hiwa (Hope) Cancer Hospital is regarded as one of the leading specialised health centres in Iraq and the wider region. Established in 2007 in Sulaymaniyah, the hospital provides free treatment for cancer patients and receives people from across the country. It is widely recognised for the quality of its healthcare services and its high medical standards.

Dr Naqshbandi noted that despite ongoing financial challenges, the hospital continues to deliver services at a high level. He expressed his appreciation to the hospital’s doctors and healthcare staff, praising their dedication and commitment in continuing their work under difficult circumstances.

He also emphasised that Sulaymaniyah has become thecapital of cancer treatment and stem cell transplantation in Iraq, highlighting the city’s growing role in specialised healthcare.
