A convoy of Syrian government security forces was attacked in the western Kurdistan (Rojava) city of Hasakah, prompting authorities to impose a curfew, the Internal Security Forces (Asayish) said on Tuesday.

According to the statement by the Asayish, the attack occurred during the implementation of the agreement between Damascus and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), while the Asayish were facilitating the entry of Syrian government security forces into the city.

“The convoy came under fire from several terrorist cells in an attempt to create chaos and destabilise the region,” the statement said.

Security forces said they responded immediately to the source of the gunfire. Following a search operation, several suspected members of the terrorist cells were arrested and are currently under investigation.

One member of the Asayish forces was injured during the operation and is receiving medical treatment, the statement added.

As a precautionary measure to protect civilians and prevent further destabilising actions, a temporary curfew has been imposed in the area. The Asayish stressed that their operations were carried out without civilian casualties and reaffirmed their full commitment to the agreements in place and to maintaining public security.

The ceasefire agreement between the SDF and the Syrian Interim Government entered into force on Monday, 2 February 2026. On Monday, the Interior Ministry's security forces entered Kobani.

Another convoy of the Interior Ministry's security forces, including a contingent of approximately 150 personnel, is scheduled to arrive in Qamishli on Tuesday.

The comprehensive agreement was reached on 30 January and includes provisions for a phased integration of military and administrative structures from both sides. Under its terms, military forces are to withdraw from contact points, while security units affiliated with the Interim Government’s Interior Ministry are to enter city centres in Hasakah and Qamishli. The agreement also marks the beginning of a broader integration process for security forces across the region.

The agreement has been widely welcomed by the international community. The United Nations, Western countries including the United States, France, and Britain, as well as several Arab states such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, described the deal as a significant step towards reducing tensions in north-eastern Syria and advancing stability. They stressed, however, the importance of full implementation and strict adherence to the ceasefire.
