PUK President: Martyr Aram Remains One of the Enlightening Knights of the PUK

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), issued a statement on the 48th anniversary of the martyrdom of leader and political thinker Shaswar Jalal (Aram). 

The PUK President's statement reads:

“For 48 years, Martyr Aram has remained a prominent and inspiring figure in the Kurdish liberation movement and one of the enlightening knights of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

He embodies continuity, resilience and hope for our party’s ideology and our commitment to serving the Kurdish people.

A salute to the pure soul of Martyr Aram and all the martyrs of Kurdistan.”

Today, 31 January 2026, marks the 48th anniversary of the martyrdom of the leader Shaswar Jalal, widely known as Aram—a visionary leader, intellectual, and progressive leftist politician in the fullest sense of the term. A pragmatic Kurdish thinker, Aram lived the pain and suffering of the Kurdish people and devoted his life to the defence of their legitimate rights and aspirations.
