Qubad Talabani: PUK Insists on Resolving Outstanding Issues in Accordance With the Constitution

A high-level delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), led by Qubad Talabani accompanied by Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Khalid Shwani, and Yousif Goran, held separate meetings in Baghdad on Sunday, 25 January 2026, with Abdul Hussein al-Moussawi, leader of the National Approach Alliance, and Ahmad al‑Assad, a leading member of Reconstruction and Development Coalition.
The discussions focused on the current political situation in Iraq, the formation of the next government, and the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
Regarding the formation of the new Iraqi government, the PUK delegation emphasised the need to establish an efficient and strong administration capable of maintaining stability across Iraq and satisfying the interests of all Iraqi communities.
The delegation also stressed that the PUK insists on resolving the outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad must be conducted in accordance with the constitution. They underlined the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad, and that they both must work together to preserve stability and promote economic development in both Iraq and Kurdistan.
