PUK President Calls for Dialogue and Respect for Rights

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Rayan al-Kildani, Secretary-General of the Babylon Movement, at the former residence of President Mam Jalal in Baghdad.

The meeting was attended by PUK Vice President Rifaat Abdullah, members of the Political Bureau Darbaz Kosrat Rasul, Ahmed Hama Karim and Rizgar Haji Hama, as well as Iraqi Minister of Justice Khalid Shwani. Discussions focused on the current political situation in the surrounding region.

Developments in Syria and Western Kurdistan (Rojava) were also reviewed. President Bafel Jalal Talabani stressed that the rights of all ethnic and religious communities in Syria must be safeguarded, that violence against Kurds in Western Kurdistan must come to an end, and that all sides should return to dialogue.

The talks also highlighted the importance of adhering to constitutional principles and legal deadlines in the process of forming Iraq’s new government.
