PUK President Congratulates Haibat al-Halbousi

PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani.
Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), extended congratulations to Haibat al-Halbousi as he was elected as speaker of the Iraqi parliament by absolute majority with 208 votes.
The PUK President's message to the new parliament speaker read:
Mr Haibat al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament,
On the occasion of your election and your gaining the confidence of the majority of members of Parliament, I extend my warmest congratulations to you. I wish you every success in this important national responsibility and hope that you, together with the new members of Parliament, will be able to serve our people and our country more effectively.
We trust that you will work as one team to strengthen relations between the judicial, legislative and executive authorities, and to unify efforts to resolve outstanding issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad within the framework of the Constitution and genuine partnership, while safeguarding our shared national interests.
Through cooperation and mutual understanding, we are confident that stability can be preserved and that the aspirations of our citizens can be realised.
