In the presence of Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Sulaymaniyah hosted the International Investment Conference on Tuesday, attended by a large number of business figures and investors.
Speaking at the event, which was covered by PUKMEDIA, Qubad Talabani said:
“We welcome you all to this important conference, which reflects the current level of investment in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.”
He noted that the governorate has seen the implementation of many investment projects in recent years, adding his thanks to the investors and businesspeople who continued their work despite challenges and obstacles.
Talabani described Sulaymaniyah as “the cultural capital of the Kurdistan Region,” now progressing towards “a strong and dynamic economy.” He highlighted the city’s growth supported by the private sector, strong academic institutions, research centres working to solve problems and develop solutions, and a large and experienced workforce alongside bold investors.
He went on to say that Sulaymaniyah also enjoys a strong security sector and an effective healthcare system. Women, he noted, are a key force in the city’s growth and will continue to be supported in accessing opportunities and contributing to its development.
The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that the government’s vision is focused on building a modern, technology-based economy, creating greater opportunities for the private sector, improving government procedures, reducing bureaucracy, and strengthening transparency across the Kurdistan Region.
He added that there is ongoing work to develop agriculture, tourism and industry, stressing that Sulaymaniyah is “not only a capital of culture, but a capital of innovation and development.” He called for strong private sector support to finance economic growth, upgrade infrastructure and expand vital sectors.
Talabani concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting investment in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, saying that through cooperation, “we can best serve the people of Kurdistan and carry out our responsibilities to the highest standard.”
