Karwan Gaznay, PUK Spokesperson.
The spokesperson for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the pledges and promises it made to citizens during the election campaign, stressing its determination to carry them out. He also underlined the importance of Kurdish unity and a cohesive position in Baghdad to safeguard the rights of the people of Kurdistan.
Karwan Gaznay, the PUK spokesperson, said at a press conference on Tuesday evening, 25 November 2025, following a meeting of the PUK Political Bureau: “The Political Bureau convened today under the chairmanship of Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK. The meeting focused on three key issues: the election results, and the formation of the new regional and federal governments.”
Gaznay continued: “Those who cast their votes for the PUK are a source of pride and honour to us. The Political Bureau assures you that your concerns have been heard, and we remain resolute and committed to delivering on your demands and the promises we made to the public.”
Gaznay stated that “the PUK’s doors remain open for discussions on forming the new regional government. Our aim is to establish a comprehensive, service-oriented administration, and achieving this requires consensus and agreement.” He added, “We are determined to implement the government programme, which incorporates our demands and was developed in coordination with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). We are close to reaching a final agreement on it.”
He underlined that “Baghdad represents the strategic depth of the Kurdistan Region, and we will participate in the new Iraqi government with two key projects: a political project and an economic project, both aimed at resolving pressing issues. In this context, we hope all political parties will align their positions to safeguard the constitutional rights of our people and address fundamental matters, particularly salaries and the budget.” He emphasised that “the PUK seeks to be a genuine partner in the forthcoming regional government to ensure it serves citizens effectively.”
In response to journalists’ questions regarding the Iraqi presidency and elections, Karwan Gaznay said: “The presidency is a right of the people of Kurdistan and the PUK, and we will put forward a candidate for this position, to be announced once the Political Bureau has made its decision.” Gaznay added, “The PUK is unafraid of fresh elections in the Kurdistan Region. Over the past three years, three elections have been held, in which the PUK increased its votes and seats, unlike its rivals, whose support has declined. We are therefore always prepared for elections.” He concluded, “A successful government in the Region cannot be formed without the PUK, and other parties are fully aware of this.”
