Iraq’s Joint Operations Command (JOC) confirmed that a number of state institutions were subjected to limited cyberattacks, but stressed that the incidents had no impact on essential services or critical infrastructure.
In a statement obtained by PUKMEDIA, the JOC reported that the state's National Cybersecurity Centre had identified the attacks as affecting “limited systems belonging to a number of institutions, without any disruption to vital or service systems.” It added that “no outages were recorded in the operation of basic services provided to citizens.”
The statement also confirmed that immediate technical countermeasures were taken in coordination with the relevant agencies to contain the situation and prevent any future repercussions.
The JOC urged both the media and social media users to exercise caution and avoid amplifying unverified information. “Accuracy must be observed to prevent exaggeration and misinformation that could confuse public opinion,” the statement said, underscoring the need to rely exclusively on official statements.
It further warned that any attempt to hack government systems or spread false information regarding cyber incidents would be considered a serious cybercrime. Legal action will be taken against those involved, the Command affirmed, stressing that such acts constitute a threat to Iraq’s national security and stability.
Meanwhile, the National Cybersecurity Centre stated that the technical environment was now “under full control” and that work is ongoing to strengthen the protection of Iraq’s national cyberspace.
The government’s announcement comes amid a broader effort to modernise Iraq’s cybersecurity framework, as officials continue to balance growing digital vulnerabilities with the need to maintain public confidence in state institutions.
