U.S. Consul General's meeting with a number of journalists.

Consulate General of the United States (U.S.) in the Kurdistan Region met with a number of Kurdish journalists and media workers and expressed support to their work and effort to cover the news and access information free from undue influence, harassment, intimidation, or other obstacles.

U.S. Consul General Mark Stroh met with a number of journalists and editors of media outlets, including Atta Karim, the editor-in-chief of PUKMEDIA, the official website of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. The purpose of the meeting was to engage in a discussion about their professional endeavors, the extent of media activity, and the obstacles encountered by the media.

The U.S. consulate published a statement regarding the meeting and said: "Consul General Mark Stroh met with a group of senior journalists and editors from various media outlets to learn about their work, the media landscape, and challenges faced by media."

The statement added: "Media anywhere plays a critical role in informing the public, shaping public opinion, and holding governments accountable, and must be protected everywhere. We are encouraged by the robust media community active in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region and support their ongoing efforts to cover the news and access information free from undue influence, harassment, intimidation, or other obstacles."
