The General Directorate of Education in Erbil Governorate announced the postponement of exams until next week due to floods caused by rain.
A statement issued by the Directorate on Thursday said that it decided to postpone the exams that were scheduled for today until next Saturday in all directorates of education except for the Soran area due to heavy rains for the safety of students and teaching staff.
The exams for the end of the first semester of the current academic year began on Monday, January 10, and will end at the end of next week.
Twelve people died in late 2021 when a wave of heavy rainfall caused massive floods in Erbil.
The incident also caused huge material damage to people's properties. Houses were filled with water and cars were wrecked.
The recent floods were the second of their kind in Erbil, prompting citizens to criticize the government and the city's governorate for failing to prevent the incidents, some of which are caused by poor implementation of projects and the blocking of waterways.
