Sanandaj has been designated as the capital of books in Iran by Culture Ministry.

Muhsin Fathi, MP in Iran's parliament, stated, "Iran's ministry of culture has appointed The city of Sanandaj as the capital of books for this year."

"The capital of books" is an annual project by the Iranian Ministry of Culture to choose a capital each year.

Sanandaj owns 78 public libraries, four centers for learning about Kurdistan, 70 shops, and 67 printing and publishing houses.

It is noteworthy that the project has been carried out for six years, and up to this point, the cities of Ahvaz, Nishapur, Bushehr, Kashan, Yazd, and Shiraz have been designated as the capital of books in Iran. This year, Sanandaj became the seventh capital of the book in Iran.
