"Walnut Tree" film displayed in Slemani for the first time

On Wednesday, the film "Walnut Tree" directed by Iranian director Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian will be screened for the first time in Slemani.

The film is about the bombing of the Kurdish-Iranian city of Sardasht, by the fallen Saddam Hussein regime, with prohibited chemical weapons in the eighties of the last century during the Iran-Iraq war.

It is based on a true story a Ghader Molanpour lives in a border village with his pregnant wife and three children happily up to the day an Iraqi fighter, on its way back from Sardasht chemical bombing, drops its only bomb left on the village leaving Ghader's loved ones chemically injured. Ghader arrives in the village and takes his wife and children to the hospital. Maryam, Ghader's wife is eight months pregnant, hence they do not let her move, but her three children are transferred to other cities. 

The film was screened for the first time at the 38th Fajr Film Festival and received 11 nominations. Mahdavian won a Crystal Simorgh for Best Director and Maadi won the Crystal Simorgh for Best Actor for his performance.
