Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), mourned in a statement Kurdish Doctor and founder of Joint Help for Kurdistan, Namam Ghafur, who died in Sweden on Thursday after contracting the coronavirus, congratulating at the same time Midya Masti who has recently graduated from the British Royal Academy Sandhurst.
Qubad Talabani said:
"Today, the stories of two Kurdish ladies make me both happy and sad at the same time.
A few days ago, Media Masti, was awarded by the British Army after completing the course of the British Royal Academy Sandhurst. This lady has served in a Peshmarga hospital and honored her country with this new step and drew a beautiful picture of the ability and the intelligence of Kurdish women which is a pride for her nation.
Unfortunately, I heard the news of the death of Dr. Namam Ghafuri from the coronavirus. Although I didn't get to know her before, but she introduced herself as a great example of dedication, loyalty and compassion to everyone. She has been living a peaceful life in Europe for over 30 years, but during the war of ISIS, she rushed back to Kurdistan to work as a volunteer doctor to serve from victims of ISIS war from Afrin to Sinjar and the victims and provided aid to the displaced people.
These stories of Kurdish women make life more colorful and they deserve to be taught."
The 30 year-old officer Cadet Midya Masti is a Kurdish born doctor who worked in a military hospital in Kurdistan and is the first Kurdish female to graduate from the British Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
While Dr. Namam Ghafuri was born in 1968 in Erbil's Koya town she was a specialized doctor in cardiology and director of the Swedish (Joint Help for Kurdistan) organization that provides aid to Shingal.
