Iraqi President Nizar Amedi has welcomed the outcomes of the recent Coordination Framework meeting, as well as the initiative announced by Qais al-Khazali, leader of Asaib Ahl al-Haq, to sever ties with the Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), stressing that the strength and prestige of the state lie in its constitutional and legal institutions.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, President Amedi said:

“We welcome the positions and measures adopted during the Coordination Framework meeting that support the consolidation of state authority and the strengthening of its sovereignty. We also welcome and support the initiative of His Eminence Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq Movement, to sever ties with the PMF and reaffirm the principle of restricting weapons to the hands of the state, in accordance with the Constitution and the law, while enhancing security and stability in the country.

We affirm that the strength and prestige of the state are embodied in its constitutional and legal institutions, and that any steps contributing to this represent further consolidation of state-building, the rule of law, and citizens’ trust in their institutions, in line with the Constitution, applicable laws, and the guidance of the Supreme Religious Authority.”
