The Centre for Kurdish Studies at University of Exeter has announced the launch of The Palgrave Handbook of Kurdish Genocides, edited by Dr. Kaziwa Salih, during a special online event scheduled for 26 May 2026 at 4:00 PM London time.

The event will feature a discussion with Dr Salih alongside contributors Michael Gunter and Allan Hassaniyan, focusing on the historical, political and social dimensions of genocides committed against the Kurdish people.

According to the organisers, the handbook offers a comprehensive examination of the origins, complexities and lasting consequences of Kurdish genocides through theoretical and empirical research, while drawing on multidisciplinary perspectives. The publication explores the experiences of Kurdish communities, including the impact of genocide on identity, displacement, political representation and cultural preservation.

The handbook also places Kurdish genocides within a broader regional and international context, encouraging comparative analysis with other genocidal events and contributing to a wider global understanding of the Kurdish tragedy.

Contributors to the volume include scholars, experts and individuals directly affected by genocide, providing diverse perspectives and detailed analysis supported by extensive academic research. The publication addresses historical developments, major events, social implications, international responses and ongoing efforts to achieve justice and accountability.

Organisers described the handbook as an important resource for academics, researchers, students, policymakers and human rights advocates, aimed at encouraging informed discussion, dialogue and greater awareness of genocide, human rights violations and conflict prevention.
