Russian President Vladimir Putin met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Wednesday, only days after US President Donald Trump visited China.

The meeting comes amid heightened global tensions and continued efforts by Moscow and Beijing to strengthen their strategic partnership in the face of Western pressure.

During talks held at the Great Hall of the People, Xi described relations between China and Russia as “unyielding”, while Putin praised the growing cooperation between the two countries despite international challenges. Discussions reportedly focused on energy cooperation, trade, regional security, the war in Ukraine, and developments in the Middle East.

Putin’s visit followed President Trump’s recent trip to Beijing, which drew significant international attention as Washington and Beijing continue efforts to manage tensions over trade, security, and global conflicts.

China and Russia have increasingly presented their partnership as a counterbalance to Western influence, with both leaders repeatedly emphasising the importance of a multipolar international order.
