Hiwa hospital’s director, Dr Yad Naqshbandi.
Hiwa Cancer Hospital in Sulaymaniyah has announced the launch of a mobile application for cancer patients, the first of its kind in Iraq.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, 18 May 2026, the hospital’s director, Dr Yad Naqshbandi, said the app provides patients with access to their medical and administrative records, enabling them to monitor their health condition and treatment progress.
Dr Naqshbandi also noted that Hiwa Hospital is the first in Iraq to introduce the Hospital Information System (HIS), which digitises patient records and removes the need for paper-based documentation.
He explained that the hospital has taken gradual steps over the years to reduce pressure on both patients and staff, with the development of the mobile application marking a major milestone. The system, he said, covers all registered patients and allows them to securely share full medical histories if they receive treatment elsewhere in Iraq or abroad.
He added that the application is multilingual and offers clear benefits for both patients and doctors, including helping to prevent the loss of laboratory results.
In a further announcement, Dr Naqshbandi confirmed that the hospital has also acquired advanced equipment worth $150,000 for cancer treatment, designed to help reduce hair loss in patients undergoing therapy.
