Iraqi President Nizar Amedi reaffirmed that Iraq's religious and cultural diversity is a defining pillar of the nation's identity and a source of its enduring strength as he welcomed Patriarch Mar Paulus III Noona, Patriarch of the Chaldean Catholic Church in Iraq and worldwide, and Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda, Archbishop of the Chaldean Catholic Archeparchy of Erbil, to Baghdad Palace on Monday.
According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency, the meeting focused on the future of Iraq's Christian community and its continued contribution to the country's national development, alongside broader discussions on safeguarding Iraq's unique religious and cultural mosaic and reinforcing the values of coexistence, citizenship, and mutual respect.
President Amedi emphasised that Iraq's strength has always been rooted in the diversity of its people, the statement added.
"Religious and cultural diversity is not simply part of Iraq's heritage—it is one of our nation's greatest strengths," the President said. He stressed that fostering citizenship, peaceful coexistence, and a culture of dialogue is essential to preserving Iraq's unity and ensuring dignity, equality, and opportunity for every citizen.
The President also paid tribute to the historic role of Iraq's Christian community, noting its lasting contributions to the country's economic, scientific, educational, and cultural progress. He reaffirmed the importance of creating an environment in which all Iraqis can participate fully in national development, allowing their knowledge, experience, and talents to contribute to building a stronger, more prosperous, and more inclusive Iraq.
Patriarch Mar Paulus III Noona expressed his appreciation for the President's warm welcome and commended his commitment to supporting all components of Iraqi society. He also underscored the importance of sustaining national efforts to promote fraternity, peaceful coexistence, and lasting peace.
