China, U.S. and UAE arrested 276 telecom fraud suspects in a joint operation.
Police authorities in China, the United States and the United Arab Emirates have arrested 276 telecom fraud suspects during a joint operation targeting scam networks operating in Dubai, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
The report, published on Sunday, described the operation as the first coordinated law enforcement effort of its kind between the three countries. Authorities said the crackdown led to the dismantling of nine alleged fraud centres linked to telecom and online investment scams.
Investigators said victims had been lured into fraudulent cryptocurrency investment schemes promising high returns through non-existent platforms.
According to CCTV, China’s Ministry of Public Security said Chinese police would continue to strengthen “pragmatic cooperation” with other countries in efforts to combat cross-border telecom and cyber fraud.
China has intensified regional cooperation against transnational scam networks in recent years, including joint operations with Myanmar that resulted in the extradition of large numbers of suspects accused of involvement in cyber fraud syndicates.
