A Kurd Appointed Military Spokesperson for Eastern Syria

The spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) has announced the appointment of Helzwar Mitani of Kurdish origin as the military spokesperson for eastern Syria within the Ministry of Defence.

SDF spokesperson Farhad Shami confirmed that Helzwar Mitani has formally assumed duties as the military media officer for eastern Syria under the Ministry of Defence.

Earlier, Syrian Deputy Defence Minister Sipan Hamo stated that the integration of the SDF into the Syrian Army and the restructuring process had made significant progress. He noted that four SDF brigades have so far been officially incorporated into the Syrian Army, adding that the next phase would focus on completing the army’s organisational framework, unifying forces and strengthening stability.

It is worth noting that the SDF and the Syrian Interim Government signed an agreement on 29 January this year, which came into effect on 2 February. Alongside a ceasefire between the two sides, the agreement provides for the gradual integration and unification of military forces.
