On the anniversary of the twin tragedies that struck the city of Qaladze, Rifaat Abdullah, Vice President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), paid tribute to the victims and honoured the memory of those who lost their lives.

Marking the 52nd anniversary of the bombing of Qaladze—particularly the attack on the University of Sulaymaniyah—Abdullah commemorated the sacrifices made in the resilient city. He stated that the assault, carried out by the former Iraqi regime, deliberately targeted the university and civilian areas in an attempt to break the will of the Kurdish people.

He described the attack as a failed and desperate effort to crush the Kurdish people’s aspirations for freedom. Despite the brutality of the bombardment, he emphasised that the people’s resilience, determination, and commitment to rebuilding and progress ultimately prevailed.

Abdullah added that those responsible for these crimes have been consigned to the darkest pages of history, defeated by the enduring will for freedom and justice.

On this occasion, he extended his deepest respect and salutations to the souls of the martyrs of the 1974 bombing, the 1982 Qaladze uprising, and all martyrs of Kurdistan.
