Iraq Kurds Genocide Anfal Kurdistan Region Ba'ath regime

Marking the 38th anniversary of the Anfal genocide, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani reaffirmed that Iraq takes pride today in the unity of the country and the fraternity of its diverse communities and ethnicities, while reflecting on the suffering endured by the Kurdish people during the brutal Anfal campaign.

In a post on the X platform, Prime Minister al-Sudani stated: "With deep sorrow and painful remembrance, we mark 38 years since the racist crimes committed by the dictatorial regime and its criminal gangs against our Kurdish people during the brutal Anfal campaigns."

He added: "On days such as these, more than three decades ago, our peaceful Kurdish citizens in cities, villages, and towns were subjected to the most heinous forms of killing and persecution, in blatant violation of all values, customs, and laws."

He continued: "As we recall those criminal campaigns against our Kurdish people, we take pride today in the unity of our country and the brotherhood among its components and nationalities, under a democratic, constitutional, and pluralistic system in which all Iraqis live with dignity, free from discrimination, targeting, or division."

In conclusion he said: "Mercy and eternal remembrance to Iraq’s martyrs, and disgrace upon tyrants, criminals, and killers."
