Iraqi Leaders and Institutions Congratulate Nizar Amidi on Election as President of the Republic

The new Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received several congratulatory messages on Saturday following his election as President of the Republic of Iraq during a session of the Iraqi Parliament.

President of the Republic Congratulates Successor

Iraqi President Dr Abdullatif Jamal Rashid extended his congratulations to Amedi on his election, wishing him success in undertaking the responsibilities of what he described as a “great national duty”.

He said: "We extend our warmest congratulations to Mr Nizar Amedi on his election by the parliament as President of the Republic, and wish him success in fulfilling the duties of this important national responsibility.

We emphasise the importance of strengthening the progress of the state and consolidating the foundations of the democratic system in a way that meets citizens’ aspirations for security, stability and prosperity, while enhancing the spirit of coexistence among all components of society. We also underline the need for concerted efforts and teamwork to confront challenges, advance reform and development, combat corruption and the monopolisation of power, and build strong institutions capable of meeting the aspirations of future generations."

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani

Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani congratulated Amedi, describing his election as an important step in strengthening Iraq’s democratic process and completing its constitutional path.

In a statement, the Prime Minister said: “We extend our sincere congratulations to Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amedi on his election as President of the Republic by the parliament. This important step strengthens the ongoing democratic process in our country and completes the constitutional path, while also reflecting the strong respect for the will of the people, expressed through their notable participation in the recent parliamentary elections.”

He added: “With the completion of this national milestone, we now look forward to the crucial step of forming a strong coalition government, based on national and constitutional principles. This government will continue the work already undertaken in the fields of development and urban renewal, consolidating Iraq’s international standing and strengthening its foreign relations, while also addressing internal challenges. These include extending the authority of the state, enhancing the capabilities of our armed forces across all branches to enforce the law and ensure a monopoly on the legitimate use of force, safeguarding security, protecting Iraq’s sovereignty and supreme national interests, and addressing pressing economic challenges.”

He continued: “On this occasion, we express our deep gratitude to the Speaker of Parliament, the members of Parliament, and all national political forces who contributed to achieving this important milestone. We also express our appreciation for the role of the Supreme Judicial Council and its commitment to supporting the fulfilment of constitutional requirements and ensuring respect for the timelines stipulated in the Constitution.”

Coordination Framework Welcomes Election of Nizar Amidi as President

The Coordination Framework has welcomed the election of Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amidi as President of the Republic of Iraq on Saturday, describing it as an important step in completing the process of state-building, strengthening the democratic system, and respecting the will of the people.
In a statement, the Coordination Framework’s media office said: “We welcome the election of Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amidi as President of the Republic of Iraq, which represents an important step towards completing the process of state-building, consolidating the democratic process, and respecting the will of the people.”
The statement added: “We appreciate the attendance of members of the Council of Representatives and their fulfilment of their national responsibilities, and we affirm that achieving this milestone enhances citizens’ confidence in the democratic process.”
It continued: “The next phase requires concerted efforts, prioritising the supreme national interest, and working in a spirit of genuine partnership among all political forces.”

Political Leaders’ Reactions

Ammar al-Hakim, head of the National Wisdom Movement, congratulated Mr Amedi, expressing hope that his term would uphold the Constitution and safeguard national interests. He also said the president's election should pave the way for completing the formation of the three presidencies and resolving outstanding political issues.

Sheikh Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq, described the vote as an important step in completing the political structure, thanking MPs for attending the session and urging political forces to prioritise the public interest in selecting a prime minister within constitutional timelines.

Speaker of Parliament

Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi also congratulated Amedi, describing his election as a constitutional entitlement achieved through adherence to legal procedures.

He thanked political forces and MPs for fulfilling their national responsibilities in completing the vote and supporting the constitutional process.

Other Congratulatory Messages

Dr Ahmed al-Fatlawi, General Coordinator for Provincial Affairs, congratulated Amedi, expressing hope that he would safeguard Iraq’s unity, uphold the Constitution, and serve national interests.

The Board of Trustees of the Iraqi Media Network also extended congratulations, wishing him success in strengthening stability, supporting development, and advancing national prosperity.

National Approach Alliance

The National Approach Alliance congratulated Amedi on gaining the confidence of members of parliament and being elected President.

In a statement, alliance leader Abdul Hussein al-Moussawi said: “We value the completion of the second phase of constitutional requirements through the election of the President of the Republic, as this represents a significant step in light of the challenges and critical junctures facing the country and the wider region.”

He added: “The Presidency of the Republic constitutes a fundamental guarantee for protecting the Constitution and a symbol of national sovereignty, given its pivotal role in maintaining the balance of power and strengthening national consensus, thereby contributing to stability at all levels.”

Al-Moussawi emphasised the importance of prioritising partnership and national responsibility, calling for constructive cooperation among political forces and adherence to constitutional provisions in managing political life.

He concluded by urging continued commitment to constitutional timelines and the completion of remaining obligations to strengthen state institutions and promote good governance in the interests of Iraq and its people.

Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq

The head of the Supreme Islamic Council of Iraq, Sheikh Humam Hamoudi, also extended his congratulations to Mr Amidi.

In a statement, he said: “We extend our warmest congratulations and sincere blessings to Nizar Mohammed Saeed Amidi on gaining the confidence of the Council of Representatives and his election as President of the Republic of Iraq.”

He expressed hope that Mr Amidi would succeed in fulfilling his national responsibilities and emphasised the need to complete remaining constitutional steps in a spirit of patriotism and cooperation among political forces.

Services Alliance

The Services Alliance welcomed the election, describing it as a long-awaited democratic step reflecting the will of parliament.

In a statement, the alliance said the vote contributed to completing a key stage in the formation of the new government and reiterated the need to expedite its formation to enhance stability, improve public services, and mitigate the impact of global economic challenges on Iraq.

Islamic Dawa Party

The Islamic Dawa Party also congratulated President Amedi, describing his election as progress in the constitutional process following a period of political deadlock.

The party stressed the importance of completing the remaining steps towards forming a capable government that meets the aspirations of the Iraqi people.

It added that it hoped Mr Amedi would strengthen political consensus, support national unity, and help guide the country through its current challenges.
