The founding conference of the Kurdish Civil Society Alliance has concluded in Düsseldorf, Germany, bringing together representatives from dozens of Kurdish organisations, associations, and civil institutions, alongside delegates from several Kurdish political parties and prominent social, cultural, and academic figures from the Kurdish diaspora across Europe.
The conference focused on organising and advancing Kurdish civil society work in the diaspora, as well as strengthening coordination among various institutions.
Participants affirmed that the establishment of the alliance marks a strategic step towards enhancing the presence of Kurdish civil society in Europe and unifying community initiatives within a structured institutional framework based on cooperation and integration. They also stressed the importance of developing a long-term vision for cultural, social, and educational programmes, and expanding cooperation among Kurdish organisations across European countries.
The conference addressed the need to support the role of women and young people in civil society, highlighting the importance of launching programmes to empower them and increase their participation in community life. Participants also underscored the importance of preserving the Kurdish language and culture among younger generations in the diaspora, as well as developing partnerships with European civil society organisations to strengthen the role of Kurdish institutions within the European civic space.
At the conclusion of the conference, representatives of the participating organisations signed a joint action protocol, reaffirming their commitment to developing the alliance and achieving its objectives. Participants also adopted a set of recommendations, including enhancing coordination among Kurdish institutions, expanding the alliance’s base, developing joint media efforts, and building effective partnerships with European bodies to support the social and cultural issues of Kurds in the diaspora.
