Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani held a phone call with Kurdistan Region President  Nechirvan Barzani on Saturday, 28 March 2026, to discuss the latest developments in Iraq and the wider region, as well as national security and efforts to maintain stability. The call also addressed the recent drone attack on President Barzani’s residence in Duhok.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, al-Sudani strongly condemned what he described as a “brutal attack” on Nechirvan Barzani’s home in Duhok, praising his “national positions” and his commitment to strengthening unity among Iraqis.

The statement added that the Prime Minister ordered the formation of a joint security and technical committee involving relevant federal and regional security agencies to investigate the incident, identify those responsible, and take the necessary legal measures.

Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to preventing any party outside the law—whether domestic or foreign—from dragging Iraq into the ongoing regional conflict, stressing continued efforts to safeguard the country’s sovereignty, security and stability through coordinated national action.
