Ibrahim Benli has been elected to Denmark’s parliament, the Folketing, representing the Enhedslisten party.

Benli, 47, was born in the Kurdish village of Bomsoz in Ankara before relocating to Denmark in 2000. He has been an active figure in local politics, serving on Herlev Municipal Council since 2017 as a representative of Enhedslisten, prior to securing his parliamentary seat.

With his election, Benli, alongside another candidate, becomes the first member of the Enhedslisten party in parliament with parents of immigrant background, marking a significant milestone in the party’s history.
