The Ministry of Peshmerga Affairs of the Kurdistan Region announced that outlawed terrorist groups  targeted a Peshmerga base with an explosive-laden drone in Chamchamal, expressing strong condemnation of the attack while renewing calls to the Iraqi Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces to take decisive measures to put an end to what it described as unjustified attacks on Peshmerga bases.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 22 March 2026, the ministry said that “outlawed terrorist groups” carried out a destructive act overnight, attacking a Peshmerga base in Chamchamal with an explosive-laden drone.

"We strongly condemn this attack, which was aimed at undermining security and stability in the region," the statement said.

The ministry noted that the repeated targeting of Peshmerga positions comes at a time when the wider region is experiencing a particularly sensitive and complex phase.

It also renewed its call on the Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces to take decisive measures to put an end to what it described as unjustified attacks on Peshmerga bases.
