Sipan Hamo Appointed Deputy Minister of Defence for Syria’s Eastern Region

The media centre of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced that Sipan Hamo, a member of the SDF’s General Command, has officially assumed his duties as Deputy Minister of Defence for the Eastern Region, a step that underscores the commitment of all Syrian parties to supporting security and stability in the region.

In a statement, the media centre added that the appointment comes within the framework of implementing the provisions of the 29 January agreement, and reflects joint efforts to address security challenges, combat terrorism, and facilitate reconstruction and sustainable development. It also aims to safeguard the interests of all Syrians and strengthen national cooperation at the highest military command level.

Earlier on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, Assem Ghalioun, Director of the Media and Communication Department at the Syrian Ministry of Defense, announced the appointment of Sipan Hamo as Deputy Minister of Defence for the Eastern Region in Syria, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).
