The US Iran

A senior US official has disclosed that around 12 countries have reached out to the United States in an effort to mediate a ceasefire in the US-Israeli conflict with Iran, now in its sixth day.

Speaking to CNN, the official said: “Since the situation escalated to violence, several countries have contacted us,” noting the total had reached about 12.

They added: “Some expressed an interest in helping to resolve the crisis, and we have been in touch with them.”

Earlier reports suggested that Iranian intelligence had informed the US of its willingness to open communication channels to discuss ending the conflict, with messages reportedly transmitted to the CIA via a third country.

However, the Tasnim News Agency quoted an Iranian official as denying any messages had been sent, saying Tehran “will not respond to US communications.”

US officials also told CNN that no negotiations are currently underway and any “potential solutions are unlikely to materialise in the near future,” as there are no serious discussions about halting military operations. The network reported that no direct exchange of messages has occurred between the US and Iran. Moreover, US envoy Steve Witkoff, who led three rounds of talks with Iran before the strikes, has not been in contact with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi—his previous messaging partner—nor with Iran’s top national security official, Ali Larijani.

A senior US official concluded: “We are not using intermediaries. This is a military operation and it must run its course.”
