María Corina Machado, Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, announced on Sunday that she plans to return to Venezuela in the coming weeks, according to a message posted on her social media accounts.

Machado, 58, left Venezuela in December to travel to Oslo to receive the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize and has been based in the United States since then. Her intended return has been the subject of widespread speculation following the capture of former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by U.S. forces on 3 January.

She is currently under investigation in Venezuela, and Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has stated that Machado must “answer to Venezuela” for her support of U.S. military actions against the Caracas government.

Local reports suggest that opposition organisers are preparing logistics for her potential return, including possible entry through the Colombian border, though details remain uncertain.
