The Kurdistan Region Asayish (Security) Agency has announced the seizure of substantial quantities of various narcotics during 2025, totalling around 700 kilograms, in addition to other liquids, injectables, and related substances. These were destroyed in a sanitary manner in the Bazian district of Sulaymaniyah Governorate. The Asayish also reported that drug use declined during the year compared with previous years.

Colonel Karzan Sherko, Spokesperson for the Asayish, said at a press conference: “The materials being destroyed today were seized during 2025 and relate to 184 cases reviewed by the courts, which ordered their destruction.”

He added: “Our efforts to pursue and arrest drug dealers and users continue in order to build a healthy society, and we thank citizens for their continued cooperation.” He explained that “the materials will be destroyed at the Gasin Cement Plant in Bazian using scientific and hygienic methods, and we appreciate the plant’s cooperation.” He emphasised that “fortunately, the rate of drug use has decreased compared with previous years.”

Colonel Sherko also listed the quantities and types of substances seized in 2025:

* 410 kg, 408 g, and 750 mg of crystal methamphetamine
* 35 kg, 987 g, and 250 mg of opium
* 29 kg, 62 g, and 400 mg of hashish
* 3 kg and 488 g of cannabis
* 3 kg and 340 g of marijuana
* 1 kg, 14 g, and 96 mg of heroin
* 180 kg and 690 g of Captagon pills, totalling 1,602,457 pills
* 32 kg and 300 g of Shadana seeds
* 85 g of Naz
* 25 g of poppy seeds
* 50,143 Tramadol tablets
* 314,790 tablets of various types
* 401 Methadone tablets
* 4 jars and 2 bottles of liquid acid
* 61 hashish cigarettes
* 104 g and 680 mg of Californium mercury
* 107 Ainmohoro needles
