Khanaqin city.
The Khanaqin Organisations Headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has reaffirmed its firm rejection of any attempt to alter the historical identity or administrative boundaries of the city of Khanaqin.
In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Headquarters called for an immediate halt to what it described as measures affecting the administrative boundaries of the city, warning that tampering with Khanaqin’s boundaries amounts to tampering with the stability of the entire region.
In its statement addressed to the people of Khanaqin, the Headquarters expressed unequivocal opposition to any move to alter the city’s historical identity or administrative status.
It described the decision to detach the sub-districts of Qara Tapa and Jalawla from Khanaqin district as political and unconstitutional, stating that the move contradicts Article 140 of the Constitution and the principles of peaceful coexistence.
The Headquarters stressed that, for the PUK, Khanaqin is a “red line”, and said it would not allow, under the pretext of administrative reform, the implementation of plans aimed at isolating and weakening the Kurdish position in the disputed areas.
It also declared full support for the youth and activists in the area, as well as for civil actions and peaceful public protests seeking to overturn what it described as unconstitutional and unlawful decisions.
The statement concluded by reiterating the demand for the immediate cessation of the measures, emphasising that any interference with Khanaqin’s administrative boundaries undermines the stability of the entire region.
