The Kurdish Democratic Unity Party in Syria (KDU) reaffirmed that President Jalal Talabani (Mam Jalal) was the strategic architect of unity among the Kurdish people.

Dr Azad Ali, Deputy Secretary-General of the KDU, said that following the 1991 Kurdish Spring uprising in South Kurdistan, President Mam Jalal formulated a comprehensive strategy of the unity of Kurds across all four parts of Kurdistan. He explained that the strategy was founded on silencing weapons and elevating the voice of dialogue and negotiation.

According to Dr Ali, this approach later became a cornerstone of the peace process in Türkiye and contributed to consolidating the rights of the Kurdish people in South Kurdistan within the permanent constitution of the Federal Republic of Iraq.

The remarks were made during a meeting with Salar Sarhad, Head of Kurdistani Relations Department of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

For his part, Sarhad noted that PUK President Bafel Jalal Talabani continues the path of Mam Jalal’s struggle to unify the voice of the Kurdish people.

He stated that the PUK has never hesitated to support Rojava and has paid a heavy price in blood and sacrifice in pursuit of that commitment.
