Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), arrived in Baghdad on Sunday, 22 February 2025, where he held a series of meetings with Iraqi political leaders.

During the meetings, he underscored the importance of convening a parliamentary session to elect the President of the Republic, and called for intensified efforts, enhanced coordination, and strengthened joint action to form a strong and service-oriented government capable of meeting the needs of the Iraqi people and safeguarding national stability.

PUK President Emphasises Importance of Preserving Stability in the Country

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Rayan al-Kildani, Secretary-General of the Babylon Movement, in Baghdad.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the latest political developments in Iraq and the wider region, emphasising the importance of preserving stability across the country.

They also stressed the need to fulfil constitutional requirements through the election of the President of the Republic and the formation of a strong and effective government.

PUK President Reaffirms Importance of Strengthening the Spirit of Partnership Among Iraqi Communities

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Baghdad with Mohammed Saman Agha, President of the Iraqi Turkmen Front.

The meeting was also attended by Iraq's Justice Miniter Khalid Shwani.

Both sides emphasised the importance of strengthening the spirit of partnership and cooperation among all communities of Iraqi society. They stressed that the election of a President and the formation of an effective government are essential to ensuring Iraq’s stability.

PUK President Reaffirms Commitment to Upholding Constitutional Principles

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Baghdad with Nouri al-Maliki, head of the State of Law Coalition.

The meeting was also attended by Iraqi Justice Minister Dr Khalid Shwani and focused on the latest political developments in Iraq.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to upholding constitutional principles and stressed the importance of unifying efforts to overcome obstacles to the political process, expedite the election of a President of the Republic, and form a strong, service-oriented government capable of meeting the needs of the Iraqi people.

PUK President Emphasises Importance of Joint Action to Form Strong Iraqi Government

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Baghdad with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.

The meeting was also attended by Iraqi Minister of Justice Dr Khalid Shwani.

Both sides emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts, coordination, and strengthening joint action to form a strong and service-oriented government.

They further stressed the need to cooperate, sustain national dialogue, and unify visions in order to fulfil constitutional obligations within the framework of the supreme national interest.

PUK President Underscores Importance of Electing Iraqi President, Forming Government

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Baghdad with Mohammed al-Halbousi, leader of the Progress Party, to discuss the latest political developments.

The meeting was attended by Haibat al-Halbousi, Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament, and Iraqi Minister of Justice Khalid Shwani.

Discussions focused on the current political situation in Iraq and wider regional developments. Both sides underscored the importance of electing the President of the Republic and forming a new federal government capable of safeguarding stability in Iraq and serving all citizens.

PUK President Emphasises Importance of Intensifying Efforts to Overcome Existing Challenges

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Baghdad with Hadi al-Amiri, leader of the Fatah Alliance.

The meeting was also attended by Iraqi Minister of Justice Dr Khalid Shwani.

Discussions centred on the formation of the new Iraqi government. Both sides emphasised the importance of convening the parliamentary session to elect the President of the Republic, as well as intensifying efforts to overcome existing obstacles and challenges.

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met in Baghdad with Qais al-Khazali, Secretary-General of the Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq movement.

The meeting was also attended by Iraqi Justice Minister Dr Khalid Shwani.

The two sides exchanged views on the latest developments concerning the formation of the new Iraqi government. They emphasised the importance of intensifying efforts to elect a President of the Republic and to form a new government capable of fulfilling its national responsibilities.

PUK President Reaffirms Readiness for Upcoming Parliamentary Session on Iraq's Presidential Election

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), received Ammar al-Hakim, leader of the National Wisdom Movement, in Baghdad.

During the meeting, which was attended by Iraqi Justice Minister Dr. Khalid Shwani, the two sides exchanged views regarding the current political situation and ongoing efforts to form the new federal government in Iraq.

President Bafel underscored the importance of continuing national dialogue among political parties, stating: “The PUK is working to boost the spirit of collaboration and to deliver more services to our dear citizens.” 

He further emphasised the party’s readiness for the upcoming parliamentary session to elect the President of the Republic and to complete the remaining constitutional requirements.
