Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Colonel Chris Hellier, the British Military Adviser in Iraq.
Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, received Colonel Chris Hellier, the British Military Adviser in Iraq.
During the meeting, both sides reviewed the latest political and security developments in Iraq and the wider region. They commended UK’s role within the Global Coalition against the Islamic State (IS) and the military assistance it has provided to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The importance of strengthening relations between Britain, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region was also underscored.
The discussions further addressed the reform process and the unification of the Peshmerga forces, as well as the formation of the new Federal Government of Iraq and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). The two sides also examined the outstanding issues between Erbil and Baghdad, stressing the need to resolve them in accordance with the Constitution.
