Kurdistan Region VP Chairs Important Meeting on Peshmerga Reorganisation

Kurdistan VP Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa's meeting with Peshmerga officials.

Sheikh Jaafar Sheikh Mustafa, Vice President of the Kurdistan Region, chaired a significant meeting on Monday, 16 February 2026, to discuss the stages of the reorganisation and unification of the Peshmerga forces.

The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials from the Kurdistan Region, representatives of military institutions and commanders of the Peshmerga.

Participants reviewed the work and progress of the specialised committees that have been overseeing the process in recent years. Discussions also addressed defining the respective authorities and responsibilities of the First and Second Regional Commands of the Peshmerga.

Following deliberations and the approval of the committees’ recommendations, it was agreed to continue efforts to ensure the success of the reorganisation and unification process, including advancing the remaining stages of the plan.
