The Portuguese parliament has unanimously adopted what has been described as a historic resolution in support of the Kurds in West Kurdistan or Rojava (North and East Syria), calling for an effective ceasefire and the activation of diplomatic and humanitarian mechanisms to protect the Kurdish people.

The four-point resolution urges the Portuguese government to closely monitor the humanitarian situation in northern Syria and Kurdish areas, in coordination with the European Union and the United Nations. It also calls for strengthened diplomatic and humanitarian engagement aimed at safeguarding the rights of the Kurdish population.

During the parliamentary discussions, speakers highlighted the role played by Kurdish forces in preventing further attacks and instability, arguing that Europe should acknowledge and appreciate the sacrifices made by the Kurdish people. The resolution is viewed as an important step towards enhancing diplomatic and humanitarian support for the Kurds at the European level.
