KRG’s Department of Media and Information
Council of Ministers weekly session.
The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Council of Ministers is set to hold its regular meeting today, Wednesday, with three key issues on the agenda.
According to a statement from the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Department of Media and Information, obtained by PUKMEDIA, the meeting will focus on matters of demographic, legal and economic importance for the Kurdistan Region.
The first item concerns the general population census conducted in 2024, which showed that the Kurdistan Region makes up 14.1 per cent of Iraq’s federal population. The Council of Ministers is expected to follow up on the federal government’s commitment to the census results in order to determine the Region’s share of the federal budget. It will also emphasise the implementation of the previous agreement between the two governments, in line with the decision of the federal Council of Ministers.
The second agenda item involves the ratification of a joint draft agreement between the Ministry of Martyrs and Anfal Affairs and the Federal Political Prisoners Foundation. The agreement, signed by both sides on 27 November 2025, aims to unify and transfer the files of political prisoners and detainees to the Federal Political Prisoners Foundation, in accordance with Article 132 of the permanent Iraqi Constitution and Law No. 10 of 2025.
The third item relates to a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Trade and Industry regarding the monthly food ration allocations provided to citizens by the Federal Ministry of Trade within the framework of government spending. The Council is also expected to address the issue of accumulated food ration entitlements dating back to the period between 2004 and 2022.
