A petition to support Graham’s bill.
US Senator Lindsey Graham, alongside Senator Richard Blumenthal, has introduced the Save the Kurds Act, a bipartisan legislative effort aimed at protecting the Kurdish people in Syria and beyond.
Announcing the move, Senator Graham stressed that there is strong cross-party support in Washington for safeguarding the Kurds, whom he described as one of the United States’ most reliable allies in the region. He highlighted the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which include a significant Kurdish component, noting that they bore the brunt of the ground fighting against ISIS during President Donald Trump’s first term.
While acknowledging the cultural, ethnic and political complexities of Syria, Senator Graham warned that continued attacks on the Kurds would severely damage the United States’ credibility and undermine Syria’s prospects for long-term stability and development.
He further cautioned regional actors and armed groups against targeting Kurdish communities with impunity, stating that any belief that such actions would go unanswered is fundamentally misguided.
The following link shows the official US Senate statement announcing the introduction of the Save the Kurds Act. The document outlines the legislation’s objectives, including the imposition of sanctions on Syrian government officials and entities involved in attacks against the SDF, while formally recognising the SDF’s role in defeating ISIS alongside US forces.
