The Union of Free Media and the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate, in a joint statement, have condemned the alarming rise in hate speech and sectarian incitement being propagated by certain Arab media outlets, particularly Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, and Al Arabiya Al Hadath, calling on them to respect journalistic ethics and abide by international conventions.
Issued on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, and received by PUKMEDIA, the statement warned that such hate speech and incitement are being used to mask systematic genocidal attacks against the people of Syria, especially in Western Kurdistan – North and East Syria. It held several Arab media outlets, foremost among them Al Jazeera, Al Arabiya, and Al Arabiya Al Hadath, responsible for fuelling sedition, war, and misinformation, thereby undermining the pluralistic fabric of Syrian society.
The Union and the Syndicate asserted that these media organisations have abandoned basic professional standards, breached codes of journalistic ethics, and become instruments of political agendas, effectively turning into agents of sedition and collaborators in ongoing crimes.
The statement called for an immediate halt to hate speech and incitement, urging media outlets to maintain neutrality and objectivity. Journalists were encouraged to stand by truth and conscience and to avoid complicity in what the statement described as the “Syrian massacre.”
Furthermore, the Union of Free Media and the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate called on relevant local and international authorities, as well as human rights and legal organisations, to fulfil their duty in documenting crimes of incitement and hate speech, collecting evidence, and addressing these violations.
The statement concluded by underlining the historical responsibility of journalists working within these institutions, stressing the importance of their commitment to journalistic ethics and international conventions.
