The Ministry of Culture and Youth of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has issued an official directive to several media outlets, instructing them to cease broadcasting foreign and Arab satellite channels that have been deemed offensive to the Kurdish people.
The move targets channels that have recently been accused of incitement, undermining social cohesion, or insulting Kurdish communities. Broadcasting companies including United Mix Media, Live Dream, Family Box, OBOX and Najma Media have been instructed to comply immediately.
According to a document issued by the General Directorate of Media, a copy of which was obtained by PUKMEDIA, the decision is based on paragraphs (1), (3) and (9) of Article (3), Section (3) of Instruction No. (1) of 2014, which regulates satellite frequencies in the Kurdistan Region. The Ministry noted that rebroadcasting such channels also breaches Article (2) of the same instructions, which relates to licensing and frequency allocation, emphasising that frequencies must be used exclusively for local channels.
The Ministry stressed that any violation of this directive will result in legal action, underlining the necessity of immediate compliance.
This announcement follows United Mix Media’s statement on Tuesday, 27 January 2026, confirming it would suspend the broadcasting of any unprofessional or unethical media outlets that distort facts or insult the Kurdish people.
