Qubad Talabani has commemorated the 11th anniversary of the liberation of Kobani, in northern Syria, from ISIS, praising the courage of the fighters and the unity of the Kurdish people.

Writing on his Facebook account, Talabani stated: “The anniversary of the liberation of Kobani marks a historic victory of the Kurdish people over ISIS terrorists. I commend the courage and steadfastness of the fighters and the entire people of Kurdistan who, eleven years ago, defended their land with resistance and determination, liberated Kobani from the hands of ISIS, and fought terrorism on behalf of the world.”

“Today, Kobani and West Kurdistan continue to be safeguarded by the bravery of the fighters and the unity of the Kurdish people,” he added.

Today, 26 January, marks the anniversary of Kobani’s liberation from ISIS in 2015. After months of fierce resistance, Kurdish forces, supported by the Peshmerga and coalition airstrikes, successfully defended the city. Kobani has since become a symbol of Kurdish courage, unity, and resilience.
